For centuries, reaching the Amalfi Coast was only possible for a few brave travellers. Without real roads it was possible only by taking steep paths on mule back or sailing on merchant boats. Only from the first half of the nineteenth century, during the Bourbon reign, did the construction of the 35km coastal road make these places truly accessible to foreigners.
Scala is located 450m above sea level in the heart of the Amalfi Coast. It is reachable by car or public transport via the panoramic coastal highway. Alternatively with the A3 and A30 motorways. The nearest railway station is in Salerno, while the closest airport is Naples Capodichino. By sea there are ferries and hydrofoils that sail from the ports of Naples, Sorrento and Salerno.
The Coast is not served by train stations. The nearest are those of Naples ( 56 km) and Salerno (30 km). From here you will have take the bus to the Amalfi Coast .
From the train stations of Naples and Salerno are available SITA bus leading to Amalfi , from there connecting bus to Scala .
Ferries and hydrofoils depart from Naples and Salerno to Amalfi , from here the SITA bus to Scala .
