After San Pietro, in the direction of the mountains, we reach Santa Caterina. It is a simple and welcoming hamlet with a strong farming tradition. Towards the thick chestnut groves, which form the crown at Scala, the houses become sparser and you will likely encounter a flock of bell-ringing goats and sheep.
The pretty little church of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, has a Byzantine structure with baroque trimmings inside. On the altar stands the painted wooden statue of the Saint, one of Scala's protectors.
